Francisco Santos, a talented contemporary Portuguese painter, was born in 1957, in Portugal. His artistic career began with solid training at the António Arroio School of Decorative Arts and the Artistic Training Course of the National Society of Fine Arts. During his academic training, he had the opportunity to be guided by renowned artists, such as Sá Nogueira and João Vieira. In the beginning, the works of Francisco Santos they were characterized by a striking figurative expression. However, as time progressed, the figurative elements in his paintings began to dissipate, paving the way for a deeper exploration of pure abstraction. Currently, he focuses his creativity on the search for the purity of abstraction, with only a brief allusion to the expressionist abstraction of his previous works. A notable twist in his most recent work is the introduction of “line paintings.” In these works, Francisco Santos explores the power of colored lines, whether wide or narrow, to create unique artistic compositions. His line paintings are characterized by vivid contrasts, serene harmony, meticulous balance, and captivating tonal beauty. Its color palette is diverse, ranging from strong and vibrant tones to soft and transparent values, often reminiscent of the delicacy of watercolor. However, the peak of his artistic talent is reached when he applies these colors in parallel bands on the canvas, creating an almost "black and white" intensity that captivates the viewer. Francisco Santos is an artist whose work has been widely recognized and appreciated nationally. Its exhibitions have enchanted the public, revealing an artistic journey marked by evolution and innovation. As he continues to explore new frontiers of abstract art, Francisco Santos promises to continue surprising and inspiring those who have the privilege of contemplating his works. His dedication to the pursuit of beauty and expression through painting is a testament to his undeniable passion and talent.
