Rui Serra é um pintor português nascido em Elvas em mil novecentos e cinquenta e sete. Vive e trabalha em Lisboa. A sua obra explora imagens do quotidiano e da imprensa. Reinterpreta essas imagens através de processos manuais que incluem ampliação fotográfica e técnicas gráficas. Assim, cria uma reflexão contínua sobre a perceção visual contemporânea.
Concluiu a licenciatura em mil novecentos e noventa e três, o mestrado em dois mil e seis e o doutoramento em dois mil e catorze na Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa. Desde então, desenvolveu um percurso consistente. Recebeu o Prémio de Aquisição da Bienal de Vila Nova de Cerveira em mil novecentos e oitenta e seis. Além disso, participou em exposições de referência em instituições nacionais e internacionais.
Expôs na Fundação de Serralves, na Culturgest e na ARCO em Madrid. Em dois mil e dezoito representou Portugal na Art Beijing na República Popular da China. As suas obras integram coleções como o Museu do Chiado, a Fundação de Serralves, a Fundação EDP e a Coleção António Cachola. Dessa forma, afirma a sua relevância na pintura contemporânea portuguesa.
