Rita Andrade
Rita Andrade was born and lives in Lisbon. She holds a degree in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon (2020) and a master's degree in Art and Politics from Goldsmiths, University of London (2022). She also attended the intensive Fundamentals of Drawing course at the Barcelona Academy of Art (2017).
A visual artist with a strong social commitment, Rita develops a practice centered on the transformative power of art as a form of peaceful communication and critical reflection. Her work addresses issues related to human rights and power dynamics, drawing on field research and experiences in countries such as Palestine and Honduras. Rita seeks to engage the viewer in a profound dialogue, encouraging self-reflection and questioning of the individual's role in society.
Since 2021, he has been exhibiting his work in Portugal and abroad, highlighting the solo exhibitions “NonViolent Resistance” (2024, Fábrica Braço de Prata), “Reflect” (2024, Sestante Art Gallery) and “Identity and Land” (2023, Galeria da FBAUL), as well as the touring “Hope in the Shadows” across four Honduran cities (2022–2023).
He has participated in several relevant collective exhibitions, such as “À Beira Do Paraíso” (2025, Galeria Lourdes, Madeira), “OBJECTIVAmente” (2024–2025, Galeria António Prates, Lisbon), “Honduras en sus artes” (2024, Madrid) and the SNBA finalists’ exhibition (2021).
Among her creative achievements, the following stand out: her participation as a guest speaker at Okayama University (2024), the development of her master's thesis based on fieldwork in Honduras (2022), the co-authorship of the book “I Have a Dream” published by the World Dream Project (2021), and the creation of the official portrait of Dr. Henrique Medina Carreira, presented by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (2017).
