Mercês Tomaz Gomes is a Portuguese photographer and filmmaker. Graduated in architecture in 2000, she moved to Denmark in 2002 to study camera and light, sound, direction, editing and documentary at the European Film College, where she developed her first experience in cinema. He directed, photographed and produced "Breve História do Vento" using stop motion techniques with 35mm photography. Later, in Copenhagen, with the support of Zentropa, it was possible to complete the production and show it at the Byen Lys Theatre. From 2004 to 2005, in Mumbai, in partnership with Kodak and local production company Phat Phish, he produced, filmed and directed "The Island of Good Life". This medium-length documentary, about the city of Mumbai, composed of more than 11,000 stills and recordings of the city's ambient sounds, was awarded best experimental documentary at the Barcelona documentary festival DOCUPOLIS 7, in 2007. Throughout the year and the following year, the film was included in the official competition of national and international film festivals. In 2009, he studied Applied Photography and Project at ARCO (Lisbon Art and Communication Center) and continued his studies at the Lisbon Atelier, developing a Large Format Photography project. Photography and cinema works were presented in three group exhibitions and an individual exhibition entitled "Um Tempo". In 2018 he directed and produced the short film "Lá comes o dia", awarded Best Fiction Film at the Architecturas Film Festival 2019.
