Hélder Bandarra, born in 1940, was a key figure in the cultural dynamism of Aveiro during the 1960s. His work became a landmark in the city's artistic history, both for its creative impact and its connection to local communities. In 1971, he joined the founding group of the Aveiro Arte movement, alongside Arlindo Vicente, Artur Fino, Cândido Teles, Candida of Rosário, David Christo, Gaspar Albino, Jaime Borges, Jeremias Bandarra, Jorge Trindade, José Augusto, José Penicheiro and Vasco White.
He also participated in CETA – the Experimental Theatre Circle of Aveiro, where he received awards for his work in set design. His output encompasses drawing, painting and sculpture, also including illustration for the press, medal making, graphic design and poster creation.
He maintains a studio in Vila Nova de Gaia, where he teaches painting and introductory visual arts. His work reveals technical mastery, confidence in drawing, and maturity in the use of pictorial languages.
