Dino d'Santiago is the stage name adopted by Claudino Pereira, born in Quarteira, Algarve, in the early 1980s. The son of Cape Verdean parents, originally from the island of Santiago, he grew up in Bairro dos Pescadores, a former shantytown in Quarteira, where his parents had moved upon arriving in Portugal.
This neighborhood, which after the April 25th Revolution became home to emigrants from the former Portuguese colonies, namely Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique, and São Tomé and Príncipe, began to be demolished in 1997. It was at this time that Dino, aged 15, went to live in the Abelheira neighborhood with his parents and siblings.
At age 21, she moved to Porto, where she stayed for 11 years, followed by Lisbon, where she settled, spending periods of time on the island of Santiago.
