Álvaro Joaquim de Melo Siza Vieira é um arquiteto e professor português, nascido em Matosinhos, Portugal, a 25 de junho de 1933. Estudou Arquitetura na Escola Superior de Belas Artes do Porto (ESBAP) entre 1949 e 1955, e a sua primeira obra foi construída em 1954. Colaborou com o Professor Fernando Távora entre 1955 e 1958.
O seu estilo arquitetónico é reconhecido internacionalmente como um modernismo poético, que combina a simplicidade formal e a pureza geométrica com uma profunda atenção ao contexto, à história e à topografia do local. Siza Vieira tem uma extensa carreira docente, tendo ensinado na ESBAP (onde reingressou em 1976 como Professor Assistente de "Construção") e como professor visitante em instituições de prestígio como a Universidade de Harvard (Estados Unidos da América) e a École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Suíça).
O conjunto da sua obra foi distinguido com os mais altos galardões da arquitetura mundial, incluindo o Prémio Mies van der Rohe (1988), o Prémio Pritzker da Fundação Hyatt de Chicago (1992), a Medalha de Ouro do RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects, 2009) e o Leão de Ouro pela Carreira na Bienal de Arquitetura de Veneza (Itália, 2012). O seu trabalho estende-se a diversos países, incluindo obras notáveis em Espanha (como em Barcelona e Cádis), Países Baixos (Maastricht), Itália e Áustria, consolidando a sua influência global.
