A true Douro native, it is in Peso da Régua where artist Rute Carlos was born, lives and has her studio.
Her academic path is marked by a duality, which began with Literature and led her to Computer Science, but it was her creative drive and fascination with Painting that led her to Interior Design and the Visual Arts.
He claims that it is on the screen that he expresses what words cannot say, and where freedom finds its purpose.
The figures he creates are not people; they are emotional archetypes and battlefields, where identity is negotiated, fragmented, and exposed. His rebellious art is a window that opens fearlessly, and far from conforming to conventions, it challenges the limits of expression.
Over the years, he has explored and reinterpreted different ways of representing reality, with a unique approach that blends the tradition of painting with new contemporary trends.
The artist who perpetuates the chronicles of her journeys in her works, leaves us with the promise: "One day I will paint the sky."
A metaphorical statement that encapsulates your belief that through art, anything is possible!
Rute Carlos's works reflect an intense and sensitive aesthetic that explores the limits of human emotion. She uses mixed media, often combining acrylic, oil pastel, and oil paint to create rich, contrasting textures.
The compositions capture the viewer through an exploration of color, form and emotion, using a technique of strong and gestural brushstrokes.
Every trace left by his brush is intense and evocative. It represents the inner struggle, the raw beauty, and the complexity of the human experience.
Its color palette is bold and invites an immersive experience without filters.
The artist believes that painting is a form of universal language, capable of transcending time and space.
