Where Gesture Becomes Light, 2026
Mixed media on screen
Dimensions: 150 × 60 cm
Original and unique work
In this work, I am interested in the moment when movement ceases to be merely movement and transforms into expression. The figure of the ballerina emerges and, simultaneously, seems to dissolve into a space constructed of light, matter, and fragmentation, as if the body remained suspended between what we see and what we only feel.
I worked primarily with a palette knife, allowing the impasto and relief to take on a physical presence on the canvas surface. The geometric planes interrupt and partially displace the figure, suggesting different moments of the same gesture and bringing the representation closer to abstraction.
The palette of pinks, ochres, creams, and yellows envelops the figure in a luminous atmosphere, while the raised arm guides the gaze and extends the movement beyond the body itself.
More than portraying a ballerina, I seek to capture what remains after the movement: her energy, her delicacy, and that almost immaterial instant in which the gesture becomes light.
