Roberto Diago
Roberto Diago is one of Cuba's most prominent contemporary artists. His work has just been added to the collection of the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, further reinforcing his international relevance.
Juan Roberto Diago Durruthy (Havana, 1971) works as a painter, sculptor, and installation artist. He graduated from the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts. His work reflects a deep investigation into Afro-Cuban identity. He addresses themes such as the legacy of slavery, structural racism, and cultural resistance. Diago uses found materials—wood, metal, jute—to create pieces that evoke historical scars and collective memories. By transforming everyday elements, he produces symbols of struggle and resilience.
His installations and paintings combine abstract and figurative forms. These compositions reveal visual narratives that denounce social injustices and celebrate African ancestry.

The gesture broadens the global dialogue on colonialism, memory, and identity.
