Manuel Tavares He was born in 1911 in Couto de Cucujães (Oliveira de Azeméis) and died in 1974. He was self-taught.
Aveiro was one of the places where he lived and distinguished himself as a landscape architect, a theme in which the salt marshes and the estuary stand out.
Manuel Tavares is represented in several museums: Museu Soares dos Reis (Porto), Aveiro, Beja, Faro and Matosinhos, as well as in private collections, both Portuguese and foreign.
Manuel Tavares distinguished himself as a landscape painter, particularly focusing on seascapes and the estuary, and also as a portraitist of urban scenes. Among his many solo exhibitions, noteworthy are those held in Lisbon in 1942, Almada (1961), and Coimbra (1936). Among the group exhibitions in which he participated, highlights include those at the National Society of Fine Arts in Lisbon (1950 and 1952), the first Exhibition of Artists from Aveiro (1970), the Great Exhibition of Portuguese Artists (1935), and exhibitions held in Lisbon (1952, 1966, and 1974), Almada (1961), Faro (1968), Matosinhos (1953 and 1963), and Porto (1935).
