Julio Cunha (born 1960, Vila Nova de Gaia) is a Portuguese painter who has established himself in the national art scene through a language that oscillates between figurative expressionism and the abstractionA graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (FBAUP), Cunha developed a style characterized by energetic brushstrokes, dense textures, and an often earthy color palette, where he explores the relationship between man, memory, and nature. His work is recognized for its ability to convey raw emotions, using the canvas surface as a field for physical and sensory experimentation.
Relevant Experience and Exhibitions

1985 – 1989: He began his exhibition career in group shows of young artists in the North of Portugal, standing out for her participation in exhibitions at the Galeria Árvore, in Porto.

1992: He held one of his first major solo exhibitions at the Nasoni Gallery (Porto), consolidating his name among collectors of the time.

1995: Participates in the exhibition "Paths of Contemporary Art" at the Tibães Monastery in Braga, a milestone in the decentralization of art in Portugal.

2000 – 2005: A period of international recognition with appearances at art fairs and galleries in Spain (Madrid and Barcelona), where his expressionist aesthetic found a strong echo.

2012: Presents the solo exhibition "Territory"rios "Passing Through" at the Municipal Museum Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso, in Amarante, establishing a dialogue between his work and Portuguese modernity.

2018: She exhibits at Galeria Sete (Coimbra), participating in shows that highlight the vitality of contemporary Portuguese painting.

2020 – 2024: It maintains an active presence with exhibitions at the Cerveira Cultural Forum and the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation, reinforcing its connection to prestigious artistic institutions in the country.
