Jeff Koons nasceu em York, no estado da Pensilvânia, Estados Unidos em 1955.
Estudou pintura na Escola do Instituto de Arte de Chicago.
Jeff Koons é um artista americano conhecido por trabalhar com temas da cultura popular e suas reproduções de objetos banais – como animais de balão produzidos em aço inoxidável com superfícies espelhadas.
Koons usou seu trabalho para refletir os sistemas comerciais do mundo moderno.
Alguns consideram seu trabalho pioneiro e de grande importância histórico-artística. Outros consideram seu trabalho kitsch, grosseiro e baseado em uma auto-mercantilização cínica. Koons afirmou que não há significados ocultos nas suas obras, nem críticas.
Koons recebeu o Prêmio Cultural BZ da cidade de Berlim em 2000 e a Medalha Skowhegan de Escultura em 2001.
Foi nomeado Cavaleiro da Legião de Honra Francesa em 2002 e então promovido a Oficial em 2007.
Recebeu o Prêmio Wollaston de 2008 da Royal Academy of Arts de Londres. Em 2013, recebeu a Medalha de Artes do Departamento de Estado dos EUA.
