Francisco José Prieto Barceló (b. 1938, Porto) is a Portuguese painter of Catalan descent, recognized for his diverse work, which ranges from abstraction to figuration with Cubist influences. His artistic output encompasses mixed media on paper, oil paint on canvas, gouaches, and watercolors, exploring themes ranging from landscapes and portraits to abstract compositions.
A graduate of the Porto School of Fine Arts in 1964, Barceló developed his own visual language, characterized by a kind of "illuminaria," where light and color play central roles in the construction of the image. His artistic approach reflects a synthesis of tradition and innovation, resulting in works that evoke both collective memory and individual expression.
