David Levy Lima nasceu em Santo Antão, Cabo Verde, e chegou a Lisboa, Portugal, em 1963, com a intenção de concluir os estudos, tendo seguido posteriormente um percurso autodidata nas artes plásticas. Reside no concelho de Cascais há cerca de 44 anos, onde desenvolveu grande parte da sua carreira artística.
O seu talento tem raízes familiares: dois dos seus irmãos, Abraham e Miguel, são também artistas plásticos, ambos com ligações ao concelho de Cascais.
Em 1968 mudou-se para o Murtal, estabelecendo a sua loja-atelier em São Pedro do Estoril, Cascais, Portugal, onde continua a trabalhar e a expor as suas obras.
Em 2010 integrou uma exposição de pintura de artistas de Cabo Verde, patrocinada pelo Ministério da Cultura, sendo descrito em catálogo como “um pintor de finíssima têmpera que tem trilhado a senda do impressionismo de uma forma magistral e triunfal”.
Ao longo do seu percurso realizou inúmeras exposições individuais e coletivas, em Portugal e no estrangeiro. Participou na exposição coletiva “The Art of Tolerance”, promovida pelo município de Berlim, Alemanha, e recebeu um convite da China como artista convidado, onde trabalhou durante três semanas.
Conta ainda com diversos prémios e distinções ao longo da carreira, conforme referido no seu percurso artístico.
