Vigorously marked by elements of color and shape, Ângelo de Sousa (1938-2011) introduced minimalism in Portugal. In the course of a perpetual search for simplicity, his paintings and sculptures are characterized by large chromatic planes with geometric figures. By manipulating supports - aluminum, iron and steel - Ângelo de Sousa creates maximum effect with minimum resources in his works. In addition to painting and sculpture, he explored other aspects such as drawing, photography, scenography and even experimental cinema, from the end of the 60s. Over the years he represented Portugal in several biennials, and his artistic production was internationally recognized at the 1975 São Paulo Biennial, in which he was awarded an award.
