Serralves Museum will have a new wing and inaugurates BPP exhibition

Of the total of eight exhibitions, seven will be their absolute premiere in Serralves. "A Balancing Line", by Alexander Calder, will be available from June. The Serralves Museum will have a new wing, in the year in which the exhibition of works by BPP - Banco Privado Português opens. "Part of it was already here, this year it will be all there, starting in the spring", reveals the president of the Serralves Foundation, during the presentation conference of the 2023 programme.
Ana Pinho explains that the museum's new building will allow "the collection to always be on display, as well as capture new archives and new deposits". The person in charge argues that having an "area to exhibit permanently is fundamental". The Museum will feature exhibitions by national and international artists, such as the work of the American Alexander Calder, who will address the relationship with the Catalan Joan Miró, and an exhibition designed by Dan Graham on architecture. The first to be inaugurated will be that of the Portuguese Carla Filipe, in March. "Serralves' programming will be strong in all its areas of activity, always in a strategic balance between initiatives aimed at the general public and more experimental projects", advances the President of Serralves.

One of the highlights of the program is the return of Serralves em Festa, after three years of interruption, this free entry event will take place between the 2nd and 4th of June. Another milestone this year for the foundation is the centenary of Serralves Park and, therefore, the entire program is geared towards commemorating this date.
Cinema is not left out, with the Casa do Cinema Manoel de Oliveira presenting a series of exhibitions not only by Manoel de Oliveira, but also by the filmmaking duo Danièle Huillet and Jean-Marie Straub. After several interruptions in the last two years due to the pandemic, Serralves programming for 2023 not only returns to normality, but also brings news.
