Rafa Fernández (Lieja, Belgium, 1966)

With a long career behind him, he has worked for years with "Espacio Foto" (Madrid) and "El Arte de lo Impossible" (Gijón). He has also had solo shows at Mediadvanced (Gijón) and at the SegoviaFoto Festival at Quintanar Palace. He participated in numerous group exhibitions, including those in several editions of the "Speaking in Silver Festival".

In 2013, he was selected at the XIII Bienal Fotonoviembre and at the Luarca International Art Competition and participated in fairs such as Entrefotos and the London Affordable Art Fair.

In his work, photography and travel go hand in hand. His words are defining in this sense: “I read that Annie Leibovitz remembered the long journeys by car with her family, traveling to the different destinations of her military father. He commented that the car window frame was his frame long before he had a camera in his hands. The same happened to me: through my father's beetle window I got used to seeing the world as we crossed half of Europe, originally from Belgium, my Belgium, to return to Asturias for vacation. ”

Although he has traveled the world extensively and holds remarkable jobs in countries like Japan, his weakness is the United States. Perhaps it has to do with its varied musical and artistic references, all of them directly linked to this nation: jazz and blues; the photography of Robert Frank, Garry Winogrand and William Eggleston, among many others; and the hyperrealist painting of the second half of the 20th century by authors such as John Baeder or Richard Estes.
