Kcho (Cuban, 1970) is a world-renowned visual artist who contributed to the contemporary art movement. Kcho He was born in Alexis Leyva Machado on the Island of La Youth in Cuba. He obtained his BA in Fine Arts by the National School of Fine Arts of Havana. He has been interested in drawing from a very young age, and his main influence was Bruce Nauman (American, n.1941). Most of the works of Kcho They are based on boat shapes. It uses materials that are often collected from other fountains such as recycled bottles and old wood of docks and boats. He grew up near the water, then took pictures of his past and raised images that honored the dead. He incorporated many Cuban icons and daily culture items into his sculptures.
Some of the most notable works of Kcho They include Infinite Column, Las Playas Infinite and El Camino de la Nostalgia. In 1995, Kcho He won the prestigious Grand Prix at the Gwangju Biennial of South Korea, which presents a global perspective of contemporary art. In 1996, Kcho He began to expose his works at the National Center for Contemporary Art in Montreal, Canada. He also exhibited his work at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Los Angeles, CA, in the National Museum Reina Sofia in Madrid, Spain, and many other galleries and famous museums.
In 1992, Kcho He was appointed member of the jury of the National Hall of the National Museum of the Palace of Fine Arts of Havana, Cuba. In 1994, he received a scholarship from the Ludwig Foundation in Cuba. The group offers cash prizes to help promote and protect contemporary Cuban artists. Next year, Kcho He received the UNESCO Prize Prize in Geneva, Switzerland. His works are on a permanent display in some of the world's most famous galleries and museums, including the New York Museum of Modern Art, NY, Arizona State University Art Museum in Tempe, AZ and the Walker Art Center in Minnesota . Kcho He currently lives and works in Cuba.
