International Museum Day
The International Museum Day is celebrated every year, since the 18th of May 1977, at the proposal of ICOM – International Council of Museums, with the objective of promoting, in society, a reflection on the role of Museums. The P55 gathered for itself, a list of ten institutions in Portugal, mentioning the patent exhibitions to start the celebrations during this weekend.
1. José de Guimarães International Center in Guimarães
CIAJG brings together pieces from different times, places and contexts in conjunction with works by contemporary artists. The exhibition cycle Nas Margens da Fiction brings together eight new exhibitions with pieces by twelve artists of various nationalities: José de Guimarães, Yasmin Thayná, Maria Amélia Coutinho, Carla Cruz, Sarah Maldoror, Francisca Carvalho, Rodrigo Hernández, Fernão Cruz, Horácio Frutuoso, Kiluanji Kia Henda, Manoel de Oliveira and Anna Francheschini.
2. Cupertino de Miranda Foundation Museum in Vila Nova de Famalicão
This institution, with the principle of building knowledge about Portuguese surrealist art, has several spaces that showcase the works of artists such as Júlio Maria dos Reis Pereira, Mário Cesariny , Fernando Lemos and Cruzeiro Seixas . Until May 18, the exhibition Só a Imagination Transforms is present, which brings together works from the Foundation's collection.

3. Serralves Contemporary Art Museum in Porto
Museological institution with the mission to stimulate the public's interest and knowledge about contemporary art, architecture, landscape and critical issues for society and its future. At the moment, there are several exhibitions by artists such as Louise Bourgeois, Olafur Eliasson, Manoel de Oliveira, Jorge Molder, Nalili Mlani, RH Quaytman, Korakrit Arunanondchai & Alex Gvojic, Hugo Canoilas, Roni Horn and Dara Birnbaum.

4. Olive Art Center in São João da Madeira
Institution that establishes contact, knowledge, interpretation and development in a challenging way about the visual arts of the 20th and 21st centuries. The program is based on exhibitions and projects that can create new interpretations of the history of art under construction. Currently on display are: Paula Rego: The Scream of Imagination , Variable Serene and Red Light: Sexuality and representation in the Norlinda and José Lima Collection .
5. Grão Vasco National Museum in Viseu
The collection of this institution consists of a remarkable set of altarpiece paintings from the Cathedral, churches in the region and other museum deposits, by Vasco Fernandes (1475-1542), Grão Vasco, by collaborators and contemporaries. From Romanesque to Baroque, the collection also includes figurative objects and supports originally from the Cathedral intended for liturgical practices such as paintings, sculptures, mostly goldsmiths and ivories.

6. Machado de Castro National Museum in Coimbra
With a unique collection, the Machado de Castro National Museum exhibits works from the Roman era to the present. This institution integrates, in architectural terms, the Roman cryptoportico and the old episcopal palace. In terms of exhibits, we started from Roman busts, to Renaissance and Baroque paintings, to sculpture, altarpieces and decorative arts dating from the 14th to the 20th century.

7. José Malhoa Museum in Caldas da Rainha
The José Malhoa Museum brings together a collection of painting and sculpture works from the 19th and 20th centuries, which refer to the romantic, pre-naturalist and naturalist values of these times through works by Miguel Ângelo Lupi, Alfredo Keil, Francisco Metras, Columbano, Silva Porto , Marques de Oliveira, Carlos Reis, Eduardo Viana, Sousa Lopes, Veloso Salgado, Dordio Gomes, Delfim Maya, Abel Manta and many more. There is also a small nucleus of contemporary engraving, where the artists Bartolomeu dos Santos, Cruzeiro Seixas , Irene Ribeiro, Marília Viegas, among others, stand out.

8. Berardo Collection Museum in Lisbon
In Portugal, the Berardo Collection Museum is a museological institution that brings together an exuberant collection of national and international modern and contemporary art icons. It currently has four exhibitions in place that provide a presentation of the main artistic movements, punctuated by some of the greatest names of modernity such as Pablo Picasso , Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, Piet Mondrian, Joan Miró , Maria Helena Vieira da Silva , Francis Bacon, Paula Rego , Yves Klein, Andy Warhol , Frank Stella, Richard Serra, Gerhard Richter, Bruce Nauman, Julião Sarmento or Gabriel Orozco.

9. Art and Culture Center - Eugénio de Almeida Foundation in Évora
The Art and Culture Center of the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation is a space dedicated to the promotion of artistic and cultural activities, carried out through exhibitions, with a special focus on contemporary art. On International Museum Day, this institution opens an exhibition with works by Alan Tod and Olga Kisseleva, Amy Youngs, Andy Gracie, António Caramelo, Brandon Ballengé, Carla Rebelo, Erich Berger, Felipe Shibuya and Pedro Cruz, Ken Rinaldo, Robertina Sebjanic and Lena Ortega , Victoria Vesna.

10. Artadentro at the Municipal Museum of Faro
This organization produces exhibitions at the Municipal Museum of Faro promoting the promotion of contemporary plastic production, in its various disciplines, in an eclectic and critical aesthetic stance for the creation, expansion and development of the community. Currently, this institution presents the exhibition The endless Taxonomic Task by João Paulo Serafim. You can also visit the vast collection of the Municipal Museum of Faro, with specimens from the Roman period and paintings from the 16th to the 19th centuries, mainly composed of religious specimens.
